Epidural or nerve steroid injections are a common treatment option for many forms of low back pain and leg pain. Used since 1952 for low back problems, this treatment is still an integral part of the non-surgical management of low back pain, sciatica, neck and arm pain. Injecting steroids in to the spinal canal or next to the nerve coming from the spinal canal, close to the bulging and inflamed disc will decrease inflammation and swelling, decrease pressure on the nerves resulting in less pain. The effects of the injection provide relief for up to one year.
